1/32 Tamiya F4U-1a Corsair

Post by stoves »

My progress on this really nice kit. The 1st aircraft kit I have done in a year. I have more confidence doing armor kits than aircraft. So this will be a good challenge for my limited aircraft skills.

Looking really good Sir.

I hear its one of the most beautifully engineered kits ever made, would you agree?
:cheers2:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

So far the fit has been great. The fuselage seam pretty much disappeared on its own. Easiest fuselage assembly I have done.

Got the engine finished today. Really enjoying this kit so far. Easily the best engine I have done. Tamiya did a really good job on the detail of this engine.

What a beautiful ugly brute!

The corsair is such a stunner to look at. I love how this is coming along. If you paint it as well as you've built it we could have a masterpiece on our hands :th: :th: :th:

Got the paint and the gear today. Still need the tail wheel and the gear doors. The top 2 colors are Mr. Color. First time using Mr. Color paints. The paint job isn't perfect as I am much better at painting armor. Forgot to paint the exhausts before I took the pics. They have been painted now.

Assembly pretty much finished. Just the lenses for the lights on the top and bottom of the wings. Won't have the paints for them until the end of the week. Just did some light weathering as I am a novice when it comes to aircraft weathering. Unfortunately despite the gloss coat and micro sol on some of the decals you can see the carrier film which sucks.

Tamiya decals right? thick as cardboard :(

did you try solvaset, i hear its stronger then Micro Sol.

build seems fine to me, i would just dry brush a litle light and dark rubber on those tyre threads, apply a tiny bit earth pigments on them also.
