Not a car/bike guy, but with all the great models I've been seeing finished on the FB page, I just might consider giving it a try.

Will you be starting a separate build thread?? Also could you advise the best way to upload pics onto the forum, please. I had been linking it all to an album, created on Facebook to showcase the build and update the written progress as needed...seems a simpler way for me to do it. Is there a particular outline you'd like to see on the ISM forum? Thanks

Im starting the build section now, flickr is the best way to upload to the forum imo. Have a look at old gb entries to give you an idea what you should do

Just getting a plan together for the Cold War GB, what can we consider relevant? e.g. would Soviet export tanks in foreign (non-Warsaw Pact) service count or only in WP/Soviet service. Just wanna clarify before I decide on anything :P

I was thinking the same exact thing as I was considering building a French Super Etendard set during the falklands war with Argentinian markings.

The Cold War as far as I'm aware is defined as a stand off and small incidents between Western Bloc & Eastern Bloc which later turned into NATO and Warsaw Pact.

In my opinion only equipment in service with the above mentioned count. The Falklands has nothing to do with it and Argentina wasn't and isn't part of either.

Roger, just wanted to check. Would the numerous proxy wars with the major powers also count? Korea and Vietnam being the obvious ones but also the lower profile conflicts like the Suez Crisis, Malayan Emergency and Cuban Missile Crisis? Or are we specifically focusing on the tensions between NATO and the Warsaw Pact nations and not the numerous satellite states? Not trying to be a pain here, just curious is all. It's such an interesting and far reaching period of history it's difficult to properly quantify

I'm not fussed either way, it just helps me narrow down what I can/want to/have time to do :th:

NO worries. I thought maybe with the UK forces (NATO member) and a French Super Etendard might have been interesting. We're fully aware that Argentina wasn't part of the cold war. Just wanted to clarify.
I just realised that the french weren't part of NATO command as they left in 1966.So I'll have to think of something else anyway.LOL
So your basically saying NATO or WARSAW pact members. That's much clearer. :th:

Hi, i was wondering if it would be okay to build a 1/35 Tamiya M113 for the build in Vietnam paint scheme, it was set around the time of the cold war?

I'd say same as above Vietnam War has nothing to do with the Cold War now has it. Why not do the M113 as US NATO Germany, now that's Cold War :th:

I do want to make a point about the Cold War GB. Whatever you chose to build has to have been used for the Cold war. it can not be just anything that happened to be around during that period :)

Yes, I just read that it was fitted with armament for ground attack for the Cuban missile crisis. This would be fine :)

I am new to the Group Builds. Are we supposed to announce (register) what we are going to build and submit? And I didn't see anything about how to submit.

Thanks.

Hi Ray

Ok so it takes a bit of wandering around to make yourself comfortable and familiar.
Each group build or sig (special interest group) build has a page, found from the Board Index
Here is the one for the Cold War
viewforum.php?f=664

Second banner from the top says build threads...when you click it it opens all the builds under this GB
At the top of this new page it says NEW TOPIC in red
Click here and it lets you enter a title and then you can begin posting your build

The pattern for a GB or sig is
Box photos
Sprue photos
Information, background on topic, reason why building this etc
photos and work in progress (wip) pictures

photos should be hosted from a third party like Flikr or Photobucket and not directly uploaded.

Have a peek at a few threads and you will see the pattern
Let me know if you need any help

:cheers2: and welcome
