Oooh a pre-bomber-sig bomber!
Looking forward to seeing how you handle this one mate, don't think I've followed you building a plane before

Thanks Tomcat, I have started planes before but what usually happens is it goes badly wrong just before I start posting so it gets condemned to the "learning curve" section of modelling life. I am now unfortunately committed so await with bated breath the first disaster... I have plans to ruin this later with wellenmuster....

LOL - when I googled "wellenmuster" it presented me with a load of pictures of knitwear!! I thought you had plans to make a stylish bomber-cozy!!!
I have since refined my search and am now looking forward to the camo scheme

even I'm not mad enough to try to knit a 1/72 bomber, it would have to be 1/32 at least.....

cockpit internals ready for priming along with the tail wheel. Theres some very big pin marks in the bottom of the floor but I think they will be invisible; if they're not I shall paint them up as in flight ashtrays....

Very tidy start mate, although I am a little disappointed that the knitwear project is shelved...

not shelved but I'm not sure my knit one purl one skills are quite up to it...

but then I've yet to show my skills are up to the 88 either

This looks like a nice Ju 88. I am always wary buying Revell 1/72 kits because one never knows if you're going to find out you really bought an old Monogram or Frog kit. I once tried an old/new reboxed Airfix Ju 88 that was absolutely awful.

Thanks Fridgy and Skypainter. This is a 2011 kit so its not too bad but has the drawback that it was obviously engineered to allow other versions of the JU 88 which does cause unnecessary problems with filling.
Thankfully due to the Beast from the East 2.0 I have been allowed to make some reasonable progress
I got the cockpit internals built and painted, vallejo RLM 66 and tamiya for all the colour blobs, I used the decal for the dash but its invisible once installed and isnt a great fit
wings and rear fuselage assembled and the cockpit assembled, this was slightly tricky for someone with 3 thumbs on each hand and there are no solid location points for the dash cowl which provides the correct seperation for the sides so I was forced to add the bottom at the same time.
This is the top of the rear fuselage section, the fit isnt great and because of the detail it makes filling and sanding awkward. Thankfully I have a quite thin spruegoo and this did the trick.
more minor gaps around the engines
The worst gap was where the cockpit section fillet fits into the rear fuselage on the underside so this needed filling and swearing at as you have to try to get the cockpit pushed back into the fuselage as much as possible to avoid even more filling...
wings built up and engine cowls added with little issue
beginning to look like a Ju 88...
The fit wasnt too bad in the end although for some reason the cockpit now looks like a bomb went off in a silver factory
I started masking the glass and called it a day when cramp/arthritis set in
Plus I had this advanced technik kit to assemble and test...
thanks for looking

Blimey that was quick! Cockpit is looking good, although I think the knitwear might be more appropriate in this weather, lol!

Many thanks for the kind words so far
Almost there, test assembled ready for a primer (Ultimate Light Grey)
This is why I like light grey primer because its light enough to show all the calamities that black seems to hide…
Evidence for the prosecution part 1
This doesn’t look too bad
Close up (sorry its grainy but it’s a crop/zoom)
As you can see theres a couple of gaps, no real stress or unexpected and I can go back and fill them without too much issue but note all panels are in line (mostly)
Now the other side… damn you Revel damn you!
enter one massive step
There is nothing I can do about this so
a) All photos will be from the other side
b) Can I really be bothered to fill in the other side? The jury is out on that one
Happy days….
Cheers
Paul

Nice work mate - I really like the detailing you did in on the cockpit panels

and all that masking
Hope you get the panels & seams sorted out.

Thanks Tomcat, its improved a little but the wellenmuster has proved a step further than my ability allows. More of that in a sec.
the story so far, following the Ultimate primer I used Mission Model Paints (more on them later too...) RLM 65 for the underside and RLM 71 for the green. I was going to use Vallejo RLM 79 for the sand colour but the bottle had coagulated into lumps so I had to manufacture a passably suitable colour using Tamiya colors that I had lying around
I then thought I'd give the wellenmuster a go....I couldnt for the life of me get the MMP paint to spray consistently, it instantly clogged my 0.2 needle and whilst 0.4 was better I couldnt get the paint not to spatter and if I did on my test card as soon as I moved to the model it went snafu..
fortunately thats the only part I've screwed up so it'll be remasked and patched but matching the sand will be fun. Ah well only 2 hours of my life I wont get back but it is incredibly frustrating, I get a very limited model time so dont really get the chance to practice or play around; why cant paint manufacturers just make product that thinned correctly for say a 0.4 needle at 20 psi and that works perfectly out of the bottle, or have I just described lacquers??
cheers
Paul

Mostly assembled now with just the snapoffable bits missing, tail retouched and whole thing glossed for decals

Coming together nicely mate - shame about the wiggly camouflage pattern though.
I think I'd probably have tried it with a brush as I don't trust my a/b skills for anything that intricate as yet
