#47.5.5 alextheblue...Vickers Wellington Mk1 Reveal

Post by alextheblue »

Well, looks like third strike and I'm out! This has been a fantastic kit and the only problems that I've had have all been of my own doing. The fit was great with no real issues, the detail really nice and as usual with new Airfix kits, the decals went down without any problems. Of the three kits that I've built for this SiG, the Lancaster has been my favourite aircraft. The Halifax the easiet build, but this Wellington has been my favourite kit by far.

I'll start with pics of the interior as the details that come included with the kit are fan-freaking-tastic! In fairness to Airfix, they recognise that the interior isn't really going to be seen, and for those that can't be bothered with the faff and hassle, they clearly show the parts that you don't need to include. Personally, I couldn't help myself and I did all of the interior. I did toy with the idea of trying to open up the fuselage, but this is way beyond my skill-set. I may buy another one of these and attempt that at a later date and if I stuff it up, what the hell!

Apologies, self-indulgent section over!

I tried to keep the weathering light due to the structure of the Wimpy and as there aren't traditional panels etc., it was more about trying to capture the geodetic lattice structure.

And that's all she wrote!

A massive thank you for Scott to hosting and running this SiG, it has been an absolute blast and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading every single thread. The standard of the work has been incredible. For amateur hacks like myself, especially when it comes to aircraft, it really givers me something to aspire to.

Well done to everyone who has already finished and the best of luck to those that are getting near the finish.

Huge thanks for taking a look! :th: :cheers2:

Beautiful work - the interior is stunning and as I said in the build thread I really like the way you've managed to subtly bring out the framework through the black on the underside

Got this kit in the stash now, guess what when I get round to building it, it won’t look anywhere near as good as yours. Awesome build

Really enjoyed the build thread on this one and you should be very proud of this quite wonderful model. Like you, I think the work you put in on the internal structure make this stand out.

Congratulations :cheers2:
