Bandai 1/72 TIE Striker

Post by aur0ra145 »

Howdy Folks!

Time to start another build. This time I'm doing a vanilla TIE Striker. The wife got it for me at the beginning of COVID so I thought I should build it up. Fortunately, I'm getting to be quite busy at work; however, it tends to cut into my modelling time. So this one might be a bit sluggish of a build.

Anywho. The TIE/sk x1 experimental air superiority fighter, also known as the TIE/sk atmospheric fighter or simply the TIE striker, was a streamlined variant of the TIE line starfighters used by the Galactic Empire, most notably during the Battle of Scarif. Specialized for in-atmosphere missions, the atmospheric fighter was identifiable by its horizontal high-speed wings and large central pod. Largely because of its specialization for such missions, it was one of the few TIE models to be used by the Imperial Army as well as the Imperial Navy.

Most notably you'll remember these from Star Wars: Rogue One.

The Sprue cutting and part filing took a long time. It took at least several days for me to complete. Then, it took me a whole modelling session just to get the sprues ready for primer and paint. As they sit now, they've been primed and I plan to hopefully paint the parts tomorrow. Once those are dry, I think the assembly should go pretty smoothly.

Bandai needs to come out with some new TIE kits. I think the only one I haven't done up until this point is the TIE Advanced. I would do some rather silly things for Bandai to come out with a TIE Bomber or TIE Phantom. Also, a TIE Defender, Imperial Gunboat and Lambda Shuttle would we so much fun to build. The other kit I'd like to see come back into stock is the AT-AT. I have an after market LED lighting kit for one (my order of the AT-AT itself was cancelled) that I'd love to build up.

Cool looking ship from a great movie. Off to a nice start.

I know what you mean about wanting more releases from Bandai. I'd love an Imperial shuttle but also figures that don't have the articulated joints because (to my mind) the obvious ball joints make them look like toys. I've thought about getting the speeder bike and scout trooper and using filler to cover the joints once the trooper is posed properly.

But for me, the holy grail would be a decent sized Death Star II kit.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Sooo. Got most of the TIE Striker painted tonight. But, I ran out of XF-83 on the last part. So yeah, I have to wait until I can make it to the local hobby store, then pray they have the correct paint in stock.

Today was a first... I went to my local (and only) hobby store to pick up some XF-83. They were out of stock. So I left the store without buying anything. I've never done that before, it feels weird.

It's finally done!

I had to take a pretty long break from modelling for some work obligations; but, that's over and it's back to building.

Kit looks decent. It has some odd engineering to it. Still the standard Bandai press fit; but, some of the parts didn't really set all that well. Painting was a breeze when I had the paint in stock.

Now, I just need to survive the hurricane that is headed this way and figure out which kit to build next. Already prepped the house, moved all the outdoor furniture, secured the grill, stocked up on non-perishable food, bought a ton of water.

More pics to follow once I break out the photo booth.

Howdy,

Finally got around to pulling out the light box. Turned out alright. The wings are so long that it's hard to get the camera to focus correctly. Also, the little stand that came with it is not all that versatile, so there weren't a bunch of neat poses to show with this one.
