Bandai 1/48 Snowspeeder

Howdy folks!

Turns out that I don't have any current Sci Fi builds, so I decided to put together a Bandai Snowspeeder I've been putting off for some time.

I'm sure everyone remembers these guys from the iconic Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back.
The T-47 airspeeder, also known as the T-47 light airspeeder, was a craft manufactured by Incom Corporation. They were modified by the Rebel Alliance into snowspeeders.

The T-47 airspeeder, also known as the T-47 light airspeeder,[10] was a model of low-altitude vehicle manufactured by Incom Corporation.[1] When the Alliance to Restore the Republic was stationed on the icy planet of Hoth, a contingent of T-47 airspeeders were modified to become ground attack, low-altitude fighters called snowspeeders. Hoth's extreme cold temperatures were too severe for these craft; the power generators would lock up since they ran hot, requiring a large bank of heat radiator fins for essential cooling. Rebel technicians modified the T-47 airspeeder by insulating each radiator fin with side panels to decrease the heat exchange in order to better suit the new environment.

A small, wedge-shaped vehicle, the Alliance snowspeeder was a two-person craft, with a pilot and a rear-facing tailgunner with a speed of 1,100 kph. It had two forward-facing heavy laser cannons and a harpoon cannon placed ahead of the tailgunner. During the Battle of Hoth, these snowspeeders used tow cables to disable All Terrain Armored Transport walkers by firing the tow cable and chasing it out around the walker's legs, stopping its locomotion and immobilizing the walker.

The plan is to build up this little guy and a apply a descent amount of weathering to the model. I'm going to go with the paint scheme that has the red/orange color on the rear.

In my true Bandai fashion, I tend to cut everything off the sprues, assemble like colored parts, then paint everything. After that I'll detail small parts as needed then assemble everything last.

I started on this kit last night, and I'm already to the prime everything step. It's really not as complicated of a kit as I had expected.

Most everything is painted. I used a homebrew mixture of XF-19 and XF-2. No real rations; just mixed until it looked about right. Next up will be masking and mixing some Red and Orange to get that on screen color.

Did a mix of X-6 and XF-7 for the orange red color. It's okay, not perfect; but good enough for me. Also taped off and painted the seats. Next up will be to detail the interior before overall assembly. Then clear coat and decals.

Did a bit of detail work on the interior. Nothing too fancy. Mostly using an acrylic pencil for some high wear areas and a light blue wash for some of the electronic displays. I should also note that I don't ever put figures in my models. (mainly because I'm terrible at painting them) Anyways, I cut off the little nubs that the pilots attach to on the seat. It wasn't a super clean cut and sanding it was nearly impossible. However, I'm good with how it's turned out.

Also shown is the engine baffles. I primed them in Ultimate Gloss Black then sprayed them @ 12 psi with Alclad II Jet Exhaust. At first it was super difficult to tell if they'd actually looked any different; but, a few days of curing and they definitely look much more better. Quite pleased.

Going great guns. Cracking little kit from Bandai. Shame it’s not available in a bigger scale.

Got the thing assembled. I'm really digging this kit. The engine baffles came out great too.

Now it's been clear coated and will get decals in the next few days.

Oh wow you just cranked through this and it looks great :th:
I like the process of take everything off sprue, clean all edges off and organize into grouped paint jobs for main colours
Simplifies spraying and speeds up a build, especially with numerous paint call outs.
Did that for the first time with my Ducati build.

Nice

Can almost hear it zooming across the snow and the crump crump of the AT-ATs.

It's a really cool way to build these. You go from just painted parts to an assembled kit in the matter of an hour. However, with higher part counts it can get a bit tedious in the beginning.

Couple of updates. Got the decals on and sprayed a clear coat of Aquagloss. Also, made a new holder for my setting solutions.

On to the final stretch! About to get down to business and weather this one.

I'm going to Light Gray panel wash followed up by some white pigments and wash as required.

I'm watching with great interest to see how the weathering comes out.
