Hello everyone! Just registered today. Prompted to do so after an online search for a review of Academy's 1/72 Roman Warship. Had checked Scalemates and it had no reviews for this model.
I would say I specialize in Napoleonic figures, though even within that subject interest/experience is mainly in the Battle of Waterloo but not exclusively.
Have modelled many WWII military aircraft but have moved away from that, back to Napoleonics and more ancient armies.
Anybody built the Academy Roman Galley? If so what was it like to build and critically for me is what is its length?
Scalemates says although it says on the box 1/72 it is actually 1/87. So essentially I'm asking is would 1/72 figures look oversized on it?
Thanks and great to become a part of this community!
Chris

Re: Introduction
Hello Chris and
to the ISM forum.
When you get a moment please check out the forum guidelines which can be found ---> here
We'd love to see your work & progress but in order to post photos you will need to host them on an external site such as Flickr and then link to them from the forum. Unfortunately the forum currently doesn't have sufficient capacity or bandwidth to host directly uploaded photos.
There is a quick guide on how to use the Flickr integration on the forum ---> here and a couple of step by step guides in here
As well as the forum boards there is a really useful Modeller Toolkit available which can help with paint matching, paint thinning, glue types & a scale calculator that can be found ---> here
We also run a number of group builds & special interest groups through the year so feel free to enter any of those that you like the look of - once they're set up they can be found ---> here
Otherwise take a look around and join in, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Looking forward to seeing some of your Napoleonic figures - I remember having loads of the 1/72 airfix figures when I was a kid.
Have fun!

Hey Chris

Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Re: Introduction
Hello and welcome to the forum. Your modeling interests will bring many of us joy to follow and see the end result.
I was thinking of building a small diorama of the battle of Waterloo, specifically when Napoleon's elite Imperial Guard were surrounded and did not surrender at the triangle ridge. It was a very famous part of the battle that broke the stalemate and sent Napoleon's forces into retreat.
While I'm not sure if or when I get to around to it. At least now it appears I have an expert in the forum to bounce this idea with (you).

Re: Introduction
Hello Chris..
Sounds like you will be our resident Napoleonic expert here, would love to see your work. My interests are all over the place, so I appreciate other peoples passions.
One thing that came to mind is to check out Harry Houdini Models on youtube. Crazy Aussie, fun to watch, he has done Viking and Greek ships and lots of old Airfix ships.
Come say hello in the Friday Night Live Youtube show if you haven't already
