I have the Italeri version with some extras so I'll be following your for inspiration (smile)

It did indeed have a rough start when initially deployed but much like the Harrier. But after the bugs were addressed and the correct operating envelopes identified and trained, they both have had a long and distinguished term of service. Have you figured out what camouflage scheme your going to apply (current gray, middle east, or early green)?

The JGSDF has an interesting color set and Pentrest has just about anything you can imagine, including a digital desert camouflage used by the Navy Seals.

Actually it is still plagued with issues. The USAF grounded their entire fleet due to power transfer issues. That was in 22. Not sure if they still are or not.

Haven’t decided yet, but the digital camo sounds interesting!

I’ll vote for the helo build! Perhaps Tilt Rotor could be a build category?

Yes indeed. Might have to display all folded up!

Reading about the V22's issues has been interesting.
Such a tremendous amount of money thrown at it.

OK, made a start.

First up is the cockpit. A few tiny fiddly bits to assemble and attach to the instrument/display panel, not entirely sure if I did them correctly, but it all gets painted black so on the grand scheme of things not that critical.

Righto. Managed to get a fair bit done in the past few days.

Started all the panting of the propellers on the sprew, then noticed the little fire extinguishers.
Cockpit came together quite well, roughed it up a bit.
Then the often thought “no one is ever going to see this but I know its there” process.

Contemplated having the rear doors able to open, then dismissed that thought.

Image

It was about this stage that it dawned on me how big this bird is.
The side elements plus the rear wing really give the bird some length & girth.

There’s going to be a bit of plastic putty required on the seams both top and bottom.
When the outer shell/fuselage was attached there's a couple of points the dont quite marry up. I'm putting the down to user error.

Lookin good so far! Are planning on adding crew members will this bird be on the ground?

Once you responded with the history of the mishaps I checked deeper and this is a little of a problem child. I also read where Japan was protesting the deployment of the Osprey to Japan bases because of the safety record. Even though it offers capabilities that no other aircraft can offer, it has had parts quality and design issues, let alone a flight envelope that was not properly addressed when first deployed.

Keep up the great work.

Pretty sure the gaps are my fault. The outer fuselage wrapped around the inner fuselage caused a few mis alignments.

I’m watching with interest if krusty has/will encounter the same thing.

Bit of a painting issue.

Not with the actual paint or painting, but the colour.
Image

Image

Image

The instructions are incorrect for one colour, and tbh, I’m questioning whether they’re also wrong on another colour.

I’m using Tamiya and the instructions call up XF58 as a medium grey, in reality, XF58 is Olive Green.
Additionally, the instructions have called up XF20 for the main upper fuselage, wing and tail, which, looking at the colour of the paint guide should be a slightly darker (slightly blue) grey than XF19 used for the underside (and smaller side section of the fuselage).

When applied, XF20 looks green/grey. Quite annoying.

Image

Image

Image

So, now in a quandary of what to use.

Image

Leaning toward XF83.

Going the other way and looking at the Mr hobby recommendations....H305 is medium grey......xf58
H306 is light grey..........xf20
H308 is very light grey.....xf19
Very different from your spoons and I always go with the first colours they list in those charts cause I figure thats the colour they are going for and every brand listed after that is their closest equivalent and is mostly not a close match.
Well that's my take any way not sure if it's helped or confused.
