A-19

I was as keen as mustard to build the KS-19M2 anti aircraft gun fielded by the over side

Image

Then I realized that this version sported the updated under carriage which put it about 1956...damn war was finished by then so I had to start the search process back over again.
North Korean decals from that time are not really common so that reduced my choice down to this gun from my stash, the A-19 common as muck and probably still in service today.

Image

Surprisingly it comes with a metal barrel and the Pe rather limited, but adequate.

Image

I probably won't get a lot done on this for a bit as I'm having wheel issues with Atomic Annie.

:cheers2:

Not intentional, but just the way it's worked out. Get these done and it'll be back to something more middle of the road from WW2 :D

Very true, just not as accurate as modern western designs.

True - but!! To quote the late and (un)lamented Uncle Joe: "Quantity has a quality all of its own".
May not be as accurate as a D30 for example - but you could get a few A19's for the price of a D30...

Also true! :) However most of the A19's I know of still in service are with 3rd world nations who produce their own ammunition. The Soviets began retiring these when the D30 entered service from the '60's on - the surplus making them even cheaper (relatively speaking). Personally I think the D30 is the better gun - far more accurate but not as easy to deploy/operate.

Interesting point about Comrade Putin though - I'm hearing on the grapevine that the RusFed MoD are having a witch hunt because warehouses/storage depots that should have been full of vehicles, parts ammo etc are mysteriously turning out to be missing most if not all the contents. What they do find is being forwarded to depots near the frontine - which the Ukranians are now taking an almost childish delight in blowing up with drones......
Now theres a thought for a future group build topic - Drones!!!

I didn't know about the witch hunt, but satellite imagery is showing large depots being stripped bare.
Vans and assorted civilian vehicles being totally rubberised...maybe the drones will bounce off
I did hear that barrels are being stripped out of old equipment and being forwarded to the front line.

Your right of course about the A-19 and not many countries still have them. Interesting though the Fin's did up gun them and the Pole's changed the wheels out for a interesting look.

I saw a clip the other day from the IWM saying that the month after the MoD had donated a Vulcan to them they asked if they could have it back for the Falklands War as it had all the in flight refuelling bits still installed...!

watching the build with interest as you always manage to select kits requiring "unusual" construction techniques! :D

I do my best to keep everyone entertained with my continuing brain seizures :D

The build
I got a bit of paint on the Atomic cannon today and yesterday, so while I'm taking a break from that I hopped into this little gun.

Image

The detail is nice with nice sharp rivets, but even here there are seams to fill and as you see I have some more to do along with clean up.

I have painting to do , but I always pick up a build and here we are back with the artillery piece.

The trails are 99% complete and they will be assembled in transport mode although they can be made to be in either mode with a small modification.

Onto the barrel assembly next and luckily Trumpeter supplies a metal replacement as part of the kit....so no sanding barrels

The detail is good, seams are present and need some filling. Ejector pin marks are mostly hidden.
Instructions need some analysing.

Hi all,

Yesterday I spent a awful amount of time looking for a couple of mounting brackets for the recoil mechanism I looked everywhere 3 times and was coming to the conclusion that the parts has just missing and never there.
This morning I had one last look around the bench, looked in the container of parts and saw this in a new light. I had obviously cut it off earlier thinking it was some one of a kind part and put it aside not thinking it was actually 2 parts joined very neatly.... :wall: :wall: :wall:

Image

Anyway I have most of it together although I have a whole PE sprue left to figure out where it goes.

Image

Most of the carriage is done, just a couple of turnbuckles to add and the gun sheild which may take me a while.

Statler and Waldorf...that's all I'm gonna say

I've ran into a PE issue.
It's a rather tricky piece to bend into the right shape, but it can be done once the mental gymnastics had been completed.
Image

However once done I feel Trumpeter has stuffed up right at the end. As you can see the top part of the bracket just won't fit where it's supposed to. There just isn't enough bend built into the PE part, now I could cut it on the upper edge, but it would have all be soldered first. Otherwise it would be in 2 separate pieces and if I used CA it being brittle would just fly apart. If I do all this is the said part going to be long enough.....dunno is the short answer.
If I was to just try to bend without cutting I suspect strongly it would just buckle.

I think cutting it, as you have suggested, is the only way to go. I cant see any other way to do it.

Damn shield isn't playing ball and those 2 PE brackets are in the bin :o
I attempted to manufacture a pair from Evergreen stock and it didn't like what I was trying to do to it and as a result they both cracked apart at the same spot. :wall:

I've bodged it up and it will have to do.
No pic's as it's in the paint booth. I'll add one in ASP later tonight.

I've still got a unsightly join which I will try to tidy up other than that it's onto the base coat.... Yep GREEN
Oh and it you can see it there’s a little bit of aluminium adhesive tape wrapped around the axles as the hubs are a smidgeon loose.

Almost done, I have to go back and fix the excess varnish. It really shoots out a lot faster than paint.
Really pleased with the paint faded effect although it's a bit hard to notice here because my camera darkened the image.

Thank you.
I've gone ahead and weathered the green with a drop of yellow /green in the gloss coat and made it faded as might have happened being so long after WW2 and stored outside.
The plans of mice and men often go awry as it was with me. Handling it by the barrel after it was dry resulted in the coating just wearing away. I've never had that happen before so I'm not sure why it happened, all I can put it down too was in this case I used AK paint in the Aqua gloss instead of the usual Mr Hobby Gunze.

Once rectified it's a wash then done and the reveal.
