Hello from ireland
Hi,
My name is Darren I'm 28 and from Dublin.
I've been making models since I was a kid and after watching some videos on a chanel called making models again I got inspired all over again and got some new kits.
The first was an eduard bf109e in 1:32 which I had prior to seeing these videos and then I got myself a tamiya 1:32 spitfire.
I was less than impressed with how the 109 turned out but I did get to try some pre shading which I was happy with.
I joined here because I really don't want to make a mess of the spitfire and I would like to get some tips and help as far as the painting and weathering goes. And I've seen the corsair videos and have ordered that kit too lol.
Hopefully it get to speak to one or two of you as time goes on and improve on my skills.
Cheers,
Darren

Cheers lads.
I've been looking to see if there are any threads on the tamiya 1:32 spitfire but it says that there are too many to list. Can one of the admin ' s please post a link to one if you can?

Re: Hello from ireland
I don't know of a build of one anywhere on the forum, I do have one to build myself at some point this year.
I know Gary has some pics of his finished spit in the gallery

Ah ok.
Thanks.
Quick one for you Paul.
These alclad paints.. do they also do a chrome effect paint? I have built the tamiya rc211v and i'm not happy with the pipes and fork legs on it they look too "metalic" and not really shine enough.. also I've seen you say something about models being prepped and polished before spraying? What in the name of Christ does that mean? Lol
Thanks.

Re: Hello from ireland
Yes alclad do a chrome effect paint, but the finish you get with alclad is all depended on the surface your spraying it onto. which leads me onto your next question.Darren169 wrote:Ah ok.

When building a model, gluing filling etc, i then sand all the parts to remove seam lines and glue marks, i use a Ultimate sanding sponge and Polisher (available from www.umpretail.com) so i start by sanding with the grey and black sponges and then once I'm happy its sanded i then sand with the green side of the polisher and then a final polish with the white side. This bring s the plastic back to as it was before you glued and sanded it, i.e. nice and smooth and blemish free.Once i have built a model i will go all around the model looking for any traces of excess glue which is then removed with the green/white polisher. This gives as perfect a surface to apply primer and base coat. I do this with all models regardless whether I'm using alclad or not as it gives the best end result possible then.
Hope that makes sense, basically as alclad is very very thin paint any blemishes will show through

Re: Hello from ireland
Hi Darren,
to ISM!
Good thing about stuff like paint etc is that individually it's quite cheap. I recently bought a load a of paint and the wife asked, "more paint, how much was that?" "Only cheap", replied I, "about £1.80 a jar".
Didn't tell I'd actually bought 28 of 'em!!!

Re: Hello from ireland
Best not to think about that, just look at it as money well spent!
And to take a leaf out of George Best's book - "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered!!!"
