Airfix 1:72 Focke-Wulf Fw190 F-8/A-8 Inbox Photo Review

Post by Joesdad »

This kit is one of Airfix's new new-tool offerings. To my eye's and I'm no expert by any means, looks like a great little kit, here's the box art...

Image

The two schemes in the box...

Image

I think the RRP is about £7/8, I picked mine up for £5 at Yeovilton model show...

Image

Everything in one bag baby...

Image

Sorry if pic is upside down...

Image

Typical Airfix instructions...

Image

Clear, concise, and familiar...

Image

Call-outs are Humbrol (obviously) and in colour. These new-tool kit are really good, did i say I picked it up for £5....?

Image

I'll proberly do this one...

Image

....as my AB skills aren't up to this one...yet....

Image

Cartigraph decals look nice...

Image

Now, detail... I guess you could say that panel lines are a bit on the deep side, a little out of scale I suppose, but they are quite nice. Plastic is on the soft side...

Image

Image

Hardly any flash or injector pin marks, apart from the bloody cockpit :( looking at it I don't think that they will seen once the 'pit is complete, but even so Airfix c'mon...

Image

More detail, this time cockpit tub...

Image

Wheel wells...

Image

Underside would take a wash nicely...

Image

Weighted wheels everyone....!

Image

The smallest sprue is some bombs and panels depending on which variant you choose to do...

Image

Clear gear is alright actullay considering this is a cheap kit, a little distortion but nothing to  about...

In conclusion this is a great beginner kit, some good detail, decent decals and what promises to be a "fall together" kit. More than that, these Airfix new-tools offer modellers of any level enjoyable builds... Lost your Mojo? Bogged down with that 1:35 Panzer II? Fed up with all that stencilling on your 1:48 Mig? You could knock these kits out in day.... What could be nicer than that? Did I mention I got it for a fiver?
Hope you found this review useful.
Yes.. It is supposed to look like that!

I just recently bought the new tooling Tiger Moth by Airfix and was astounded by the lack of flash particularly on the two pilots. I aslo didn't note any injector pin marks but the Fw190 appears to have not escaped the age old Airfix curse of injector pin marks. Nice review mate, really enjoyed it and now I have to see who sells it in my area :D
:cheers2: for the review mate!
