Pauls's F-16 Egg Plane

Post by Paul »

So i wanted the Su-33 but couldn't get it in the Uk, so i thought this would look cute next to the 1/32 F-16.

Now I've no idea what the girl is gesturing with her hand and mouth, but to me it just doesn't look right for a model box lol

Quite a lot of decals for an egg plane
Image

So a real over-easy (sorry) build, not a hard boiled build at all (sorry again), it was fried, sorry i mean built in less than 30 mins and a little bit of filling and rescribing and she's where she's at now.

The pilot (or elephant as hanna calls him) all build up sanded, filled and polished :thumb2:

You should have much better luck with your decals than I did with the Thunder Birds F-16

Been working on this for the past couple of nights, got a fair bit of progress done to it :cheers2:

Got all the fuselage sanded (where needed) and polished up. The pitot tube was removed (well it fell off) i knew i would add my own anyway.

As this is going to be a "mini me" next to my 1/32 F-16 i wanted the canopy tinted, so using some mr hobby grey smoke thinned with Ultimate thinner i spayed several light coats inside the glass work. once dry i used Ultimate cleaner to remove and over spray from the outside

Image

Gave the cockpit a coat of mr hobby flat black ready for the pilot
Image

The pilot was primed and test fitted :thumb2:
Image

Image
He was then airbrushed in olive green and his helmet painted vallejo Meduim sea grey, the canopy was also masked (a real tricky bugger to do)

Image

The painted black in the visor and couple of different vallejo greys on the hose and face mask,

Image

He was then glued in position on an angle, to add some interest. Then to try out the UV activated glue for the first time on a canopy. :wtf:
Image

A small amount of the clear glue was placed on some masking tape and using a cocktail stick i applied it to the canopy in the same way i would with micro scale crystal clear. The uv glue is about the same consistency as medium thick superglue and once the canopy was in position i cleaned up any excess with a damp cotton bud, again cleanup is as easy as with a pva based glue. Once i was happy with everything i gave the glue a blast with the uv torch and it dried instantly forming an as strong or to be fair a stronger bond than crystal clear gives. The uv is well worth trying, works brilliantly, clean and easy too.

Ok woodworking time to replace the pitot tube.

Using my low speed mini craft "dremel tool" with a cocktail stick in the chuck i turned and new tube using two Ultimate thinny sticks
Image
ImageImage

Once shaped how i wanted i superglued it in place and filled around it with gap filling ca glue will leave this overnight and then sand it all flush, ready for primer :cheers2: :hi:

Amazing work. I learned some scratch building techniques just from the first part of your build! Love it.

Eggzpescially like the smoked tint work on the canopy!

So the egg f16 was primed then sprayed the same colours as my 1/32 F-16. Mr hobby 331 and 308 and the radome 317
ImageImage

This was then glossed using alclad aqua gloss, great stuff i doubt ill be using john sons clear ever again
Image

Decals on and set, didn't use them all as they didn't look realistic and wouldn't have matched the 1/32
Image

The sindwinders, wheels where painted and the exhaust painted in alclad magnesium

Side by side with the 1/32, will it be Mother and Daughter, Father and son, or Mother and son, or Father and Daughter? You're going to tell me it's Uncle and Nephew now!

Cheers,

Martin

I think the biggest question should be "what came first? the falcon or the egg" ;)
