This is my first metal finish model. It's of Capt. Leonard "Kit" Carson's P-51K Mustang "Nooky Booky IV" There are some Eduard PE in the cockpit - straps and instruments - but other than that its oob. Paints used were Vallejo Model Air and plain artist acrylic for wheel bay and nose/propeller. Lots of masking involved to highlight various panels with subtle changes in metal skin. All sealed with Pledge floor polish.

I don't know how to link to flikr and show photos here so sorry for the links.

Nice job, Squi99ly! I'm working on a Revell 1/48 P-51D Mustang - "Miss Marilyn" and presently working on the cockpit, but, when I get to paint the outside silver I want a nice finish without using Alclad, because I use Acrylics. Therefore, what paint did you use for the silver...it's looks pretty good to me?

Cheers,

Hi Martin,

I used the Vallejo Metallic Color set VAL71176. In particular, silver, steel and gun metal. For the exhaust stack I mixed the copper with black acrylic artist color. To vary the panels I added tiny amounts of black or white acrylic although they don't show all that well in the pictures. Look forward to seeing yours when it's finished. :)

Robert

p.s. just looked up Miss Marylin and I see she has a really shiny surface below the olive drab. don't know that the vallejo will get near that look. could you use foil for that section seeing as it's a relatively small area?

Hey Robert, I could use tin foil, but, I've never done it before, so it would be a first for me. Regarding the shiny airframe silver on the actual aircraft; I think that it looks this way because it is now a highly polished and looked after "War Bird", whereas, during service, I believe it would have been toned down somewhat and displaying some battle weariness? I haven't seen any War-time photos of her yet....have to do some more searching. I'll be glad hen I get a chance to get back onto her. We had a busy 4 day weekend for a family wedding that took me away from the bench. Hopefully, tomorrow, I'll be able to grab a few hours so that I can finish of the pit and glue the fuselage halves together, along with the wing assembly. We'll see....

Cheers,

Martin
