Trumpeter 1/72 Mig-29A Fulcrum (9.12)

Post by patrickroos »

As a lover of Russian Jets I was pretty exited to unbox this new release of the Mig 29.
Russian jest are quite big, the Flanker is really big and lends itself well to 1/72 but also the Mig 29 is "big enough" in 1/72.

Will not go into scale accuracy, that's for other forums to debate, I will just give You my impressions of this kit from a general point of view.

The box is quite small but sturdy as we have come to expect from Trumpy. The box art is beautiful, one of the best I have seen.

Image

In the box everything is packaged very nicely in separate bags, and sensitive parts with extra foam wrapping. Excellent!
(Why Airfix, Revell and others cannot do this also in 2015 is beyond my comprehension):

Image

The fuselage/wings comes in two separate halves which are put together in the box. (the same as all their Flanker kits) This immediately reveals the perfect fit! :th:

Image

Image

Some shots of the AMAZING moulding and detail level...Im in love!
(Please keep in mind its 1/72 when You see the pics...)

Vertical fins...beautiful details...

Image

Image

Sprue with cocpit tub, two different nose cones etc. (one piece nose cones! :th: )

Image

Look at that beautifully moulded nose pitot tube...small scissors for scale, who needs resin or even brass!

Image

Two identical sprues with wheels, seats, nozzles etc.

Image

Image

Image

Seat is very nicely detailed for 1/72!

Image

Image

Sprue with horizontal tail planes and various small bits...NO ejection pin marks in the wrong places.

Two identical sprues with pylons/hardpoints, missiles etc.

Missiles...

Clear parts are as good as it gets...And perfectly protected.

Image

Decals, three sheets including full missile markings. They are ok, but this is the only part of this kit that could have been improved.
Sorry for the bad pic!

Image

Image

Image

Decals for IP are ok and totally fine at this scale.

Image

Love Trumpeters colour call-outs! (even if they are not always accurate)

Image

One Russian scheme

Image

One Hungarian scheme

Image

On the back of the missile paint chart there is a full colour print of the amazing box art! A given on the wall of the mancave :thumb1:

Image

Not much to say about the instructions, Trumpeter standard, clear and easy to follow.

Conclusion
It does not get any better than this in 1/72 folks!
All the plastic gets 10/10 from me, the decals are fine but not quite Cartograf class.
This is the only thing that Trumpeter could improve in my mind.
There are two more versions coming! :th:
And there is also a Mig 29 C coming from Zvezda lets see how that can match the ones from Trumpy.

Very highly recommended!!! :cheers2:

Yes,

I like Airfix kits (Don't know why, there is no logical reason) but they are way behind this in terms of injection moulding plastic techniques.
These new Trumpeter kits put them right up there with Eduard, Tamiya, GWH and other top quality manufacturers.

I have all the Trumpy 1/72 flankers also and they are equally nice! :th:

:cheers2:

Wow! Impressive details. I've not built a Trumpeter kit yet and this may be the first.

The flanker kits are also ´really good, but I would hold this juuuust a bit better.
Out of 100, Flanker kits 97, this 99 ´
This new kit is almost "perfect" in all disciplines...only the decals can improve it.
Well maybe some PE or masks, but in this scale...naaa dont need it with this level of detail and quality of moulding.

I have also painstakingly compared all the newest Flankers in 1/72 Zvezda/Revell, Hasegawa and Trumpy.
Trumpy takes it, just ahead of Hasegawa, and Zvezda/Revell last (not a bad kit but still)

Get the Mig!

:cheers2:
