Eduard 1:48 MiG 21 PF ProfiPACK

Post by Joesdad »

How you doing?
Hot on the hells of the F-16 comes another build for you.....

Image

We'll have a stab at this scheme...

Image

Image

Usual thing, start with interior stuff getting it ready for paint. Nose wheel bay here which in turn forms part of the cockpit..

Image

Engine nozzle and bits..

Image

Well all love Eduard kits but they're not afraid of giving us small parts..

Image

Ready for paint

Image

Image

AK's Extreme Stainless Steel..

Image

Now as your well aware a lot of Russian aircraft have that emerald/turquoise colour for the 'pit, but not this MiG  I've matched this colour to Aquaous H337 (it's not far off)

Image

Ready for buttons..

Image

'Pit PE...not bad  I would've gone with painting it myself, but ProfiPACKs are all about the PE..

Image

I used air drying clay in the nose cone and an extra wheel rim weight just in case..

Image

Fuselage all butt.....

Image

Rudder and spine fitted..

Image

It's an Edaurd kit so no drama's yet, I'll let you know if there is but I don't except any. Looking ahead what sort of load out should I fit? I'm actually thinking none at all but I'm open to suggestions : :

TTFN
Yes.. It is supposed to look like that!

Very liking the pit. I have the PFM in the stash, can't see it being that much different to this (in fact I don't know what the actual difference is between a PF and a PFM!) so looking forward to seeing how it goes together.

I don't know the difference between any of them mate! I was actually disappointed the pit was grey and not green. What has happened to me is that I've grown an interest in fast jets :thumb1:

Paint the thing green then, it's your kit.

Looking good so far Dave,

Tool it up, I think a jet looks better with the stores on but that's my opinion.

I know what you mean Les, but.....
1, The plane is from a training school and would it be loaded up?
2, She's similar to a Lightning and they don't look the same with "stuff" dangling off 'em.
3, I'm lazy!

Let's try more metal paint namely AK Extreme..

Image

Image

Yeah I know...
Let's try that again so that you see a bit better..

Image

Image

Image

A bit of surgery to open up the air brakes(?)

Image

I'll tart this up later..

Image

No fit problems here..

Image

Getting ready for priming...

What we have next are various photos of paint on plastic. What we do during our builds is bonkers really, taking photos of of bits of plastic, bare and with paint on them is bonkers  With that in mind....

Just Vallejo model colour intermediate green..

Image

You can't beat Mr Color buffables...Dark Iron

Image

Fuel tanks (not sure which one yet) and air brakes, u/c doors, mottled....

Image

Top coted...

Image

Undersides of the MiG in the same technique, this is the way forward for me. If you get it right it's very effective...

Image

I'll have to get back to you in a mo as PB is packed up on me...:

The "fun" begins now peppie, I've some 2mm Taiyma bendy tape waiting in the wings. I really don't want to use white tac worms.

Thanks Bruno
There is actually mottling on the green as well as the mid stone but it incredibly hard to see. I'm not sure about panel fading, I think thre two might clash?????

Ta for taking time to comment Goose

Alclad Aqua Gloss applied in nice, even coats. Dries lovely...

Image

Here we go...

Image

Is this really necessary...

Image

Most of the decals are stencils, so I didn't bother taking any photo's.
After I'd finished with decaling, and blown on another cote of clear. It was time for an oil wash, a dirty brown colour...

Image

Image

Image

Probably let this dry overnight and scrub it off tomorrow now.
Thank for looking lads..

Tomorrow never came, I scrubbed later that night..

Image

Image

Image

Underneath (obviously)..

Image

Some more

Image

Image

I've put down a matte cote here before I try some oil stuff :

Image

I'm not sure why I took this photo...? I thinks it's something to do the u/c going in..

Image

Some staining, went ok, just ok mind I need to practice...

Image

Image

Unusually the last major job it's the ejector seat...

Image

Image

Oops

Image

Various stages of the life of some parts...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

We're nearly done with the MiG now. Just a few more little bits to do....
