You try closing the Lid on RED 10 Comrade!

Post by Always48 »

The Year is 1972, and an Old retired Sukohi SU9 stands forlorn at the edge of a Russian airstripe. Winter is creeping up fast and maintenance have left the canopy open on Red 10 after removing some avonics panel. The passing Mig pilot spots this on the way back to the mess room for His Vodka and trys to close it but alas mig ladders are not tall enough for this mighty task. Leaning over he Shouts "YOU TRY CLOSING THE LID ON RED 10 COMRADE! "

I used Mig's Grey for sand filter on the front screen to give it a retiring look

Standard kit decals worked well on this IP. rest of the kits decals i had to replace! either wrong or just plain useless.

Well thats my entry into the gigg. The build thread was here http://www.intscalemodeller.com/viewtop ... 50&t=16972. Have to say its been great fun. and its turned what was a kit from the collection into my best build to date. I will edit the this post tomorrow with what ive used as i dont really have a lot of stuff yet.
Thanks for popping by

Thank you so much Guys for the kind words.:

Paint wise i used Aluminium (differing shades) titanium, and steel from AK's extreme metal range which by all accounts are the easiest to use. lucky really i did as this was my first Nmf aircraft and i put a few pinky marks in it! fortunately i was able to fix fairly easy with a swift rub and another coat of paint.
I used tamiya paint in the interior / wheel wells which i then highlighted the edges. i bought one of those silver pencils for the panel edges/ chipping. very easy to use that was.
weathering was done with a cheap set of artists oil tubes from "The Works" in town and Mig Ammo Rust / dirt / streaking grime.
All in all a massive learning curve, and i got so much inspiration from looking at the work of all the Gb builds. :cheers2:

I said it on your build thread and I repeat it here: This dio is just outstanding! The paint job on the aircraft is gorgeous with the different shades of metallic colours and the really brilliant weathering. The dio base is a masterpiece and both kit and dio tell a story. That's really nicely done, Alan! :) Jens

Thanks rodrant im really pleased you like it, as ive admired a lot of your works on the forum. Its not the most interesting jet those ruskys have ever built but seeing those retired pictures on the net of a Su9 red 10 inspired a story beyond the actual model kit.

And this GB has really been epic in the creations people have made. its been so much fun and educational watching peoples work grow on the builds too.

:jd: Wow....
Fantastic reveal Alan, i like this scene a lot mate...
Scattered debris and discarded items, worn old jet, overgrown runway section ....AND a working light!..
Detail is good, figure is perfect and i bet a couple of late evening/dark photo's showing that light dimly illuminating the scene would be superb..
Have you taken any or do you intend on doing?
Fantastic build that i feel ashamed to have overlooked for the past 4 months... Well done Sir..
Continued Success.... Happy Modelling.. :thumb1:

Thanks for the really kind praise Andy, Unfortunately that light doesnt really create much light and what little light there is gets reflected of the metal finish. when i tried to take a picture all i got was 2 orange dots.... it didnt work as well as i hoped

That's a damn shame Alan.... :(
I know!..... Photoshop could work. Found some links here...

..and here..

But that could be a little computer heavy if you, like me, are a Photoshop novice.
Would be cool though..
Thanks again for sharing such a fantastic display..
