Airfix 1/48 scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII

Post by muskegman »

This aircraft was flown by Squadron Leader R.H. Harries, No.91 (Nigeria) Squadron, Royal Air Force Hawkinge, Kent, England. May 1943.

I would like to start off by saying I was very impressed by this kit from Airfix. No flash at all and the parts almost snapped together. The detail is really very good including the cockpit detail, panel lines and even the rivets were impressive. The clear parts of the canopy were immaculate and I had to keep reminding myself I was building an Airfix kit and not a Tamiya or some other high end kit. Airfix really seems to have picked up their game with this one and I can honestly say I will be buying more of the newer releases from Airfix if they are anything like this. I highly recommend this particular kit to anyone (A05117).

To start off no harnesses were molded into the pilot seat so I made some using stiff paper a ruler and a hobby knife

attached the strips to the seat and painted

here is what it looks like inside the cockpit

This is the completed build all hand painted using the hairy stick with Humbrol enamals and I used Vallejo matt finish to complete

That spitfire looks awesome! :)

I can agree with the great quality of the new Airfix kits, I'm currently building a Harrier GR3 and it is of similar quality!

Hi mark
Fantastic job you did on the spitfire. I haven't done a airfix kit for nearly 20 years , by the look of your kit I must start doing more airfix kits again.

Cheers
Phil
