Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
Hi guys, this will be my entry to my first group build. The Hasegawa Focke Wulf 190A eggplane.
I am looking forward to this build it should be a lot of fun and take my mind of the Tamiya mi-24 Hind kit I have been battling with.

Re: Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
Time to get cracking
I cant believe I just said that ... hangs head in shame
well there is not much to these birds (or should that be eggs) is there? a couple of hours and assembly is finished. so I thought I would get creative (a dangerous thing at the best of times) I have drilled out the gun barrels and added some break lines made from 5amp fuse wire. I am very jealous of your eggs as most seem to come with a pilot or even two. no such luck with this model just a seat and that's it. so I am going to make a basic interior, seatbelts, joystick and the most basic of things a floor!
but it didn't take long for me to have my first disaster of the build...
I forgot I ran out of Tamiya primer on the last build, grab can of car lacquer primer from the cupboard how different can they be?? the answer to that is VERY DIFFERENT!!!
so after covering my little egg in thousands of teeny tiny ripples I have had much fun sanding them all down. so if you ever want to cover your model in lots of little ripples I know just the formula.
fortunately I have managed to get my little Focker back from the edge of the bin and I might be able to salvage something.
cheers for looking and keep up the good work everyone

Re: Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
thanks for the support guys,
the primer issue has been pretty much sorted with good old fashioned elbow grease.
can any one think of something better to do on a Friday night than sit in the man cave and play with there eggs?
... no me neither.
after I got all creative making the cockpit a bit more detailed by adding a floor, joystick and rudder peddles I decided that there were other things I could improve and I went a bit mad.
first I was not happy with the tiny cannon on the nose so I beefed them up by cutting them out and adding some aluminium tube (see photos). i filled the gaps around the tube with miliput. while I had the miliput out I also made a role for the front of the cockpit making sure the canopy would still fit.

next I made a step from .8mm aluminium for my non existent pilot (still bitter about that!
) behind the left wing and from the same aluminium i added an areal to the end of the right wing. but this was not quite the end of my creativity. after looking at many fw 190 I wanted to better replicate the landing gear which has quite a distinctive 40 degree brace at the top on the inside so i drilled out the landing gear and added some more aluminium bar for this.

thanks for following me along this bumpy road guys sure there will be many more ups and downs.
I still haven't decide on how to paint my egg yet. I quite like the one shown on the box, but I wonder could the colour scheme from jv44 work?
the one with red belly with white stripes and the greens on top. I know that was an Fw 190 d with the inverse v12 engine so has very different exhaust details but if you cant let your hair down when you are making an egg plane when can you. let me know what you think guys and ideas on the paint scheme would be much appreciated at this point.

Re: Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
thanks for the nice comments guys
the model has progressed a little the past couple of evenings.
paint going on the underside, I decided to paint the fw190 in the jv44 colours. as you can see prom the photo I have got the red with the white stripes done and it is staring to look like a proper Easter egg now! next will be the rlm 76 light blue then the greens, rlm 82 and 83. not looking forward to the mottling
but it will be good practice for what I have in mind for the night fighter SIG coming up later in the month.

Re: Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
After another productive Friday evening and the little egg fw190 is coming along nicely. for me the part I was dreading the most on this build was the mottling. I think it came out quite well but I will let you guys be the judge. one thing that I think helped the most was fitting a moisture trap to my compressor, it has made a huge difference. i used to get very thin bits of paint coming through the airbrush which would then get blasted across the model by the air pressure and look like i had little spiders all over the place.
decals next, maybe over the weekend.

thanks for looking

Re: Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
forgot to add for anyone interested the paints i have used are all Tamiya acrylics, they are just the easiest to get here. the bottom was first painted white xf2 and then masked with 2mm tape and the red is xf7. the top was painted rlm 76 light blue first, a 50/50 mix of xf23 and white. then the rlm 82 light green which i used xf5 95% and white 5%. the rlm 83 dark green is xf26.
the mottling i did with the paint thinned down by about 75% with thinners this allowed for a gradual build up and make the fade a lot easier

Re: Focke Easter! I'm going to make an eggplane
The little Focker is all finished
since my last post I have added the decals (which were not very good), done some light weathering, the final matt coat and finished off with the antenna wire.
I did have some problems with decals on the wings silvering, no amount of micro sol was getting rid of it so I used Tamiya x-20a thinners on them which seemed to help but still not perfect. also the decals on the fuselage did not want to conform but the micro sol did help with this. after they had dried I did my weathering. normally I would add the weathering after another gloss coat but as there are so few decals and virtually no panel lines to wash I decided to do it all at once. the weathering is mostly Tamiya weathering master with some dry-brushing to pick out the details. the matt cost is Tamiya XF-86 flat clear, which I like a lot, I has a bit of sheen and goes on very nicely through the airbrush. then all that was left to do was the antenna wire. for this I used thin ez line (also highly recommended).
decals on

subtle weathering

finished - more photos in the gallery section

thanks for following my build, it is the first group build I have entered and I have enjoyed it a lot. it started with a bit of a disaster ( primer issues) but I think it has come out alright in the end. it makes me smile to think of all you guys out there making these silly little egg planes all at the same time
I was a bit sceptical of the whole egg plane thing to start with but I have had a hoot making it and will defiantly be making another one soon.
