ISM Prizes

Post by 3DModeler »

I accepted an extended assignment in France and brought all my modeling stuff with me from the US, including two tables and a spray booth. My intention was to work on my model railroad kits and perhaps build a small layout to try out new techniques. While visiting a hobby shop in Paris for railroad supplies (they had none), I spied a Revell 1/200 Bucket Wheel Excavator, which even at 1/200 will have a finished size of 1000mm. I thought, that would look great in the office. After a week or two of debate, I returned to the Hobby Shop, bought the kit, and all the paint and other stuff I would need, but couldn't have shipped from the US. I even bought a new compressor for airbrushing since my old one is 110V 60Hz. After some research and comparing prototype photos to the kit, I decided there was a lot that could be done to make the build more interesting. Back to the shop I went for some structural shapes and strip plastic. Bad idea. My eye caught sight of a pile of 1/72 scale rail related kits. So I thought why not. Military kits were my favorites as a kid, so it'd be fun. One of the kits is the Hasegawa Leopold Railway Gun. While searching for tips and techniques on building that kit, I stumbled onto Lee's video of the Hobby Boss "Dora", and it was love at first sight. No, not Lee, the model kit! I must have watched that video 5 times, including today. When the video ended, I saw the URL to this forum and joined. I am very excited about the information on ISM as I have been away from kit building for some time. I already watched the newbie color modulation video. My goal is to create a huge diorama featuring the railguns, steam engines, a diesel engine and other kits to give a sense of scale, but not make it look like 50 pounds of sh*t in a 30 pound sack. And the prize drawings, that's just icing on the cake. With the help of all of the modelers available in this forum, I already feel like a winner...but please don't count me out of the drawing!
