Rodrant's Eduard I-16 type 24 1/48 - Baltic Fleet version

Post by rodrant »

Hi ,

so to relax after that Big Diorama , I decided to build this 'unknown' model to all you , or maybe not :-) .

Yes , another I-16 from Eduard :nena: , now I must build it to at least other ISM modellers that already completed it , to being different I decided to do the Baltic Fleet Version ( all grey , or light grey ..with under in blue ...or not , at least seems that this little plane has a lot of if's :-)

The box :

Image

Bag with all the sprues in it :

Image

all in one Bag ...well hope that nothing is loose , but Eduard boxes are resistant

Image

Decals , PE and masks ...

Image

Instructions booklet

Image

The version that I'm going to make ...no covers on the landing gear , and can be all Light grey ( no blue under ...or could have the blue ) the guards shield , also do not know if only one side or two side ...well will be two sides and Light grey with some blue under ...as the color scheme ...go for this one to make a different version , and also to see how it turn my weathering in the Light grey version ...some sort of F-16 of 1942 :-)

Image

, but I enjoy this version that most of you build , it is nice and already very nice builds here on this little and funny plane , seems a Gee Bee from the american pre war races ...

Image

Sprues :

Image

A lot of tiny parts on this sprue ..I wonder were all go in such a small plane :

Image

Clear parts ...or part :-)

Image

Starting on the both fuselage halves , some tiny PE to do ...

Image

Image

Really didn't like this part to place the exhausts ...still have doubt on how many to use in each fuselage , and really no place to fit them ...so it is by the eye ...

More in next update, as this was my last night work , will do more today ! we must not stop modelling :-)

:cheers2:
Cheers ,
António

sorry :-) , I choose this color scheme because everybody do the one like you did first , and already mention that in your build thread ...I'm going to buy another one to do that color scheme , LoL .

Thank you and good luck with your builds , the first one is amazing !

so , I was busy with the build ...

Finish the seat

Image

and glue the halves...also I did the instrument panel , that with the PE is great, but it will burried deep inside the fuselage, so ..you will not see a thing of it after built ...but it is nice and I spent some good modelling time placing some small PE switches and so ...

Image

Also the seat is a little tricky to glue ...

Image

Then let be light for this new stuff from Tamiya , the fantastic amazing Tamiya Extra Thin Quick setting glue , and no it isn't the same as the normal Extra Thin , it dries quickly and you must be carefull as really evaporates quickly , but it is better to use in some works as the Extra Thin , and yes , the smell is awfull ..some nail polish remover scent all over ...I'm getting a little dizzy

Image

But it is a very nice glue , I manage to glue the wings with no clamps , and they fit perfectly ...

Image

Then I discover that I make a mistake ...I glue some wrong parts in the upper exausts , I change the parts , and I remove them so that I can place them correctly here ...glad that the kit have a lot of spares and so not so bad , still this exausts are horrible to fit , they are round and no place to fit them , so we never know if we are placing them correctly ... ahhhh ...that is way I love Tamiya kits :

Image

Again the magic glue on the work , I first glue two pieces toghether before i palce them i the plane , seemed to me the easy way to do it , and yes I place this parts and will paint them in the end ...

Image

Some Putty must be placed on top of the fuselage

Image

and in the bottom ...

Image

not really the kit that has a problem , I have a problem as I'm doing this build a little relaxed and not too focused on it :-(

So all ready to primer ...will use tamiya GRey Primer , my favourite , and will paint the plane next , will do some pre-shading , as I will use a light grey color will try to do some nice weathering effect on it , will try...let's see how it will be in the end :-D

Time to paint :

Primed all stuff ...Tamiya Grey Spray Primer

Image

My attempts i making pre-shading :-) , used Tamiya XF-1

Image

And my pre-shading in the underface ...almost painted all black :-D

Image

Paint the Propeller , it supposed to be Flat Black and make also some small shades in the propeller cone and engine cover

Image

Image

Bottom sparyed XF-23 Light Blue :

Image

Upper sprayed XF-19 Sky Grey , those were the colors I have here , maybe the Light grey in the scheme was much more lighter , I could have mixe dsome white and make it less dark , but I kind of like this color so on with it !

Image

Now will add some X-19 smoke and ruin the paint job near the exausths , and finish all the samll details , exausts must be paint in Red Brown , will use X-9 Brown , and will paint the tyres with XF-85 Rubber Black , also musy paint the cockpit frame and the colimator .

Then Clear Coat , decals , pin wash ...and think tomorow will be finished !

Last update ,well it is a sort of warp-up on this ...

I decided to spray some x-19 smoke on the exhaust ...being honest , I didn't care to see much photos of the real thing and only in the end discover a wonderful site on this little plane , seems that this was the very first plane to have a retractable under carriage ...also and for example until the arrival of the BF-109 in Spain Civil war , they make waste to the Nationalists Planes (Fiat CR42, HE-51s ,Arado Ar 68 ) .well in my Final reveal I will place some links for you to see and if interested to see some very nice photos and chamos on this ...saw some that make me wish to do at least two more of these ! :-).

As I mention , watching the photos seems that they do not have that much exaust soot , also I think that the color choose by may be not quite correct , oh well ..maybe it could be , as they were used also in Naval operations against ships , so maybe they could be with sea grey tone ...but also in that site on Russian planes the grey is a lot lighter .

Then spary the soot with X-19

Image

Image

Clear coat for decals

Image

Before I painted all details , the aluminium stripe all over the engine cover , tyres painted tamiya XF-84 Rubber black

Image

Decals done , it was very fast , and what a wonderful decals this are ...Tamiya could learn something with Eduard , they are great :th:

Image

on the bottom :

Image

And now only have to make some wash will use MIG Dark wash , a flat coat and to fit the cockpit small glass , the pivot on the wing and the colimator ion the top of cockpit , oh and some wires needed to the gear landing as it should be added but not provided in the kit :-(

And time to make the final reveal here :

Hope you liked this small build ,Happy modelling !
